Overview

Friends of the Family (FOF) is an advocacy group dedicated to providing assistance to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and homelessness across 20 counties in Northeast Iowa. They came to VGM Forbin looking for a new website to go along with their organization's re-brand with a new name and logo. They wanted to make sure they would maintain a professional image that will inspire confidence for individuals seeking out their services.

Goals

• Redesign Friends of the Family’s website
• Integrate new logo from third party design firm into new website’s design
• Provide overview of services and provide opportunity for visitors to contact organization for assistance if they are in need
• Include a PayPal payment portal to allow donors to contribute money directly through the website
• Include a section of the website to allow FOF staff to edit a supplies list for items of need at their shelters
• Incorporate an “escape button” to allow users to quickly exit the website when necessary, removing any history of having visited the Friends of the Family website

Process & Insight

The new Friends of the Family website needed to be inviting and easy to navigate. Forbin began by developing a wireframe that included a collaborative prototype. This allowed the FOF staff to be heavily involved in developing a design that not only offered a strong user experience, but would be easy to understand for individuals seeking individual services. Forbin also developed new site content to more effectively highlight the organization's services, community events and donation opportunities.

Because of the sensitive nature of the organization’s mission, Forbin created an escape button that appears in the header of every page to allow a user to exit the site with a single click. Donating to Friends of the Family’s mission is also easy on the new site, as Forbin developed a PayPal-enabled portal to allow donors to make contributions directly from the site.

The Solution

With the launch of this new website, Friends of the Family now has a website that allows victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and homelessness to find services that help improve their lives. FOF can easily collect donations that will allow them to continue their mission of helping people throughout Northeast Iowa. VGM Forbin is proud to have created a website that makes it easier for a community organization to serve people in need.
